Valley Vets strike for fair deal for workers and pet owners

Workers at Valley Vets at four sites in Cardiff are taking two weeks strike action to demand fair pay for workers and fair fees for customers.

The company is owned by Vet Partners that is worth £3 billion but bosses have offered just 1-1.5% pay increases.

This is the first strike by workers in the private veterinary sector in British history by members of the British Veterinary Union, part of Unite the Union. 

Workers are proud of the service they provide to pet owners and are concerned that the company is overcharging what is a vital service and underpaying its workforce, building high profits being used to build a vet empire by its owners. Vets costs have soared since lock-down and huge profits are being made at the expense of workers and pet owners. The industry is being investigated by the Competition and Markets Authority.
