The Vice Chancellor of Bangor University has decided that his currently unused property is more important than the livelihoods of the people who work for him, but also more important than the lives of the students who pay him.
120 of these jobs are support staff and 80 are academic staff.
Now is not the time to be cutting jobs. We need staff more than ever. Students need the support to make it through isolation, many are getting more and more depressed and are confused about what they should be doing. There is not enough support here in Bangor for all the students in this time of crisis and now the university has decided they want to cut student support even further!?
Students will agree, it is ridiculous.
As part of the Socialist students campaign for public democratic ownership the universities.
We demand:
- Universities to open their books so we can see and control exactly where our money is going
- Bring back all services that have been privatised back in-house or face mass action not just from students but from staff as well.
- For a cancellation of student debt and swap student loans for student grants
- For rent control to end rent rip offs and demand no charge for unused room
