TUSC by election campaigns hit Splott and Riverside
Big support for resisting the cuts
The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) campaigns in Cardiff have got off to a flying start as canvassers received a very warm welcome that made up for freezing temperatures. Cardiff like other councils is facing huge cuts to services and jobs - £100 million worth.
In Splott Socialist Party member, Katrine Williams, who is president of Cardiff Trades Council and chair of PCS Wales has been selected to stand agaisnt the cuts agendas of all the main parties - Labour, Liberal, Conservative and UKIP. Everyone on the streets and doorstep agrees that the threat to Splott pool and the STAR leisure centre are very serious cutbacks to community facilities. And no one trusts the Labour council to protect them. The Labour council will reveal the details of its plan in January AFTER the by election. Of course the Liberals are part of the coalition that is cutting the funding to the Welsh government and Cardif council. More posters have gone up for TUSc than any other party.
In Riverside bedroom tax campaigners have thrown their support behind Joel Beer, the TUSC candidate, who has been campaigning to prevent evictions of tenants hit by the bedroom tax.
On saturday 30 November a Cardiff TUSC rally is being held in the STAR centre which will be addressed by Keith Morell, one of the rebel Southampton councillors who has successfully campaigned to save his local community swimming pool.
